Inspirational Part 1: Illustrative works.
Posted in Inspiration
Gonna get a series of inspiration roundups going here on the Growcase blog that I hope you’ll enjoy.
It will be a weekly addition that will go on for as long as I can keep interesting themes going and you guys are welcome to send me suggestions. Each theme will be a presentation of 5 cases.
For this first week, I have decided to kick it all off by presenting a couple of my favorite illustrative artists.
I decided to pick some people that aren’t necessarily amongst the most “hot & famous” illustrators around at the moment, but still possesses a substantial amount of talent and hold their own unique style. So I figured it would be great if more people got to discover their beautiful art.
So without further ado, I present to you…

Aaron Scamihorn

He resides in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he runs his own printshop. Aaron Scamihorn aka Ronlewhorn, the digital portrait painter extraordinaire. I’ve followed his work for some time now and he has grown so much as an artist in such a short period of time. Aaron specializes in Gig Poster work, but he’s far from a one-trick-pony. I should also add that his website is amazing. It’s beautiful. Packed with work to riffle through and updated on a regular basis. Should be bookmarked by anyone who’s interested in great graphic design.

Chris Burns

Maybe more well known under his pseudonym “Mister Bones”, Chris Burns is an artist whos work I stumbled upon very recently for the first time. We seem to share an interest in the late great comedian Bill Hicks and that’s how I found him after googling around for illustrations of “Goatboy” (Bill Hicks’ alter-ego persona). I quickly realized that he had so much more to show than just that. His profile on Deviant Art has a pretty large container filled with some of his marvelous work. Sadly that’s all I could find from this guy, but it will have to do (for now).

Amanda Mendiant

Some people are just born with it. This woman is a prime example. I grew up watching her paint and evolve her artistic style and sense for years. It might seem bias of me to present an artist from my own hometown, but when you discover the world of Amanda Mendiant, you’ll see that it’s not the case. She has been painting for a very long time and never seems to run out of inspiration or ideas to keep growing. Amanda is mostly known for her paintings, but also has a long history of working with illustrative designs for a wide variety of clientele.

Derek Deal

Enter Derek Deal. He hails from Florida, but is currently working out of Brooklyn, New York. Not many designers posses such a rich and flavorful variety in skill, like this guy. Probably mostly known for his morbid cartoonish work where he portrays gore and horror with a bright sticky palette, but also a master at branding and identity logo-design, as well as his lifelike digital portraits.
